– 60% increase in mobile conversions.
– 35.76% lift in overall conversion rates.
– 30% boost in revenue per user.

Task

Move Littleknits off Magento 2 and onto a faster, more user-friendly Shopify platform. Their old site was slowing growth—especially at checkout. We were tasked with migrating a massive dataset of products, customers, and orders, while preserving SEO through proper redirects and metadata.

About the Client

Littleknits is a US-based online retailer specializing in high-quality yarn and craft supplies. With a large and loyal customer base, they’ve grown into one of the go-to names in the knitting and fiber arts community. They came to us looking to modernize their ecommerce experience and remove the friction created by their Magento 2 store. As a long-term client, they trusted us to handle this high-stakes migration with care, strategy, and precision.

The Challenge

Migrating a high-volume ecommerce store comes with unique technical and strategic hurdles. With over 60,000 products, 100,000 customers, and 300,000 historical orders, this wasn’t a simple lift-and-shift.

The main challenges included:

  • Ensuring clean and accurate migration of large datasets with complex relationships
  • Reorganizing inconsistent tags and collections into a more scalable Shopify structure
  • Maintaining full SEO performance with thousands of indexed URLs
  • Creating reliable redirects between Magento 2 and Shopify’s URL structure
  • Identifying Shopify app equivalents to replicate key Magento 2 custom functionality
  • Working within Shopify’s checkout limitations, which cannot be customized

Our Approach

Our in-depth knowledge of both Magento 2 and Shopify allowed us to deliver a smooth, precise migration. The strategy focused on maintaining SEO, preserving data integrity, and replicating essential functionality in a more scalable environment.

  • Rebuilt tags and collections for Shopify using a combination of manual input and structured CSV imports
  • Matched Magento’s custom features with carefully selected Shopify apps to maintain existing workflows
  • Developed a custom Liquid script to dynamically display sub-collections on parent collection pages, improving navigation and UX
  • Created and applied a 1:1 redirect map using data exported via a Magento 2 custom script to retain all indexed URL paths
  • Selected a pre-built Shopify theme tailored for large catalogs and optimized it for speed and usability
  • Preserved all metadata, canonical tags, and structured data to protect SEO performance
  • Conducted thorough QA across catalog, filters, collections, and mobile views

The Results

The migration launched without disruption, and the performance improvements were immediate and measurable.

  • 60% increase in mobile conversions
  • 35.76% increase in overall conversion rates
  • 30% increase in revenue per active user
  • 15% growth in total revenue
  • No loss in SEO rankings, organic traffic, or indexed URLs
  • A faster, more intuitive shopping experience on all devices

Conclusion

This project wasn’t just about changing platforms—it was about precision. With our deep understanding of both Magento and Shopify, we delivered a seamless transition for Littleknits, keeping what worked, fixing what didn’t, and setting them up for scalable growth.
